Job summary

University Hospital in San Antonio, TX seeks a High Reliability Manager of Operational Excellence to partner with the Director in advancing a culture of fairness, learning, and reliability. You will coach frontline leaders, facilitate rounding, and promote consistent adoption of FJC-HRO behaviors.

The role focuses on leadership development, succession planning, and embedding high reliability in day-to-day decisions, education, and department improvement efforts across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, organizational development, leadership, business, psychology, or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, developing, or consulting with leaders in healthcare or complex organizational environments is preferred.
• Experience with Fair and Just Culture, High Reliability, leadership development, organizational effectiveness, or patient safety is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

The High Reliability Manager Operational Excellence partners with the Director in advancing University Health’s culture of fairness, learning, and reliability by coaching and mentoring frontline leaders, facilitating cultural rounding, and promoting consistent adoption of Fair and Just Culture and High Reliability Organization (FJC-HRO) behaviors. The Manager serves as an operational leader responsible for advancing leadership development, Fair and Just Culture, and High Reliability across the organization through coaching, consultation, education, and advancement of department and organizational priorities. The Manager plays a key role in building leadership bench strength by supporting succession planning and development activities across departments. Responsibilities also include facilitating leader education, supporting department-level improvement work, and helping embed Fair and Just Culture and High Reliability principles into everyday leadership behaviors, operational practices, and decision-making.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, organizational development, leadership, business, psychology, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred. Experience coaching, mentoring, developing, or consulting with leaders in a healthcare or complex organizational environment is preferred. Experience with Fair and Just Culture, High Reliability, leadership development, organizational effectiveness, or patient safety is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Lean/Six Sigma certification desired. Certificate in Just Culture Training for Managers and Mentors required within 90 days of hire.
