Job summary

Nscale is seeking an Operational Engineer to enhance reliability and operability of our engineering services in a fast-paced AI-driven environment. You’ll build tooling, dashboards, and automation for alerts, on-call, and service readiness, partnering with infrastructure and service teams to address recurring issues and improve operational health.

You will own incident coordination, improve runbooks and ownership, and drive safer, faster changes through clear processes.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years in operations engineering, SRE, cloud infrastructure, or similar role.
• Experience operating or supporting production services.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, on-call, runbooks, and engineering work management.
• Hands-on with Grafana, PagerDuty, Jira, Backstage, public cloud, dashboards, integrations, or workflow automation.
• Ability to use operational data to identify gaps and drive closure.

Responsibilities

• Onboard services to operational tooling including alerting, on-call, dashboards, runbooks, Jira, and service-catalog records.
• Build and maintain integrations, dashboards, reports, and automations across tooling (Grafana, PagerDuty, Jira, Backstage, cloud platforms).
• Improve operational readiness by identifying ownership, alerting, documentation, recovery procedures, and dependencies gaps.
• Act as incident commander: coordinate response, communications, timelines, post-incident reviews, and follow-up actions.
• Help make routine changes safer, faster, and more repeatable through processes and automation.
• Contribute to service-health, SLA, cost, patching, and operational-risk reporting.
• Maintain accurate operational data, including service ownership, on-call coverage, runbooks, and dependencies.
• Work with teams to reduce manual toil and improve operational outcomes.

The role

We are looking for an Operational Engineer to help make Nscale’s engineering services reliable, secure, measurable, and easy to operate.

You will build and improve the shared practices, tooling, reporting, and automations that service teams use to manage alerts, incidents, changes, service readiness, and operational health. You will work closely with infrastructure and service teams to turn recurring operational problems into durable improvements.

What you’ll do

• Help onboard services to operational tooling, including alerting, on-call, dashboards, runbooks, Jira, and service-catalog records.
• Build and maintain integrations, dashboards, reports, and automations across tools such as Grafana, PagerDuty, Jira, Backstage, and cloud billing platforms.
• Improve operational readiness by identifying gaps in ownership, alerting, documentation, recovery procedures, and service dependencies.

What you’ll bring

• 2–5 years’ experience in operations engineering, SRE, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or a similar role.
• Experience operating or supporting production services.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, on-call, runbooks, and Engineering work management.
• Hands‑on experience with some of Grafana, PagerDuty, Jira, Backstage, public cloud, dashboards, integrations, or workflow automation.
• Ability to use operational data to identify gaps and follow actions through to closure.
