Job summary

Lincoln Electric, through Alloy Steel International (ASI), seeks an experienced Operations Director to lead end-to-end operations for ASI in Western Australia. You will drive production, engineering, procurement and workshop management with a strong focus on safety and quality, while aligning with commercial goals and customer commitments.

This role requires 10+ years of senior operations leadership in heavy industrial settings, across multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in senior operations leadership in steel/metals manufacturing.
• Experience managing cross-functional teams across production, engineering and procurement.
• Proven track record delivering safety, quality and on-time delivery.
• Strong knowledge of EHS and manufacturing compliance.
• Experience in shift-based, award-covered manufacturing environments.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management or related field.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end operational delivery for ASI, including production, engineering, procurement and workshop management, ensuring safety, quality and delivery performance.
• Oversee engineering functions and support manufacturability of new products with R&D/Metallurgy.
• Lead procurement and logistics for materials, ensuring supply continuity and cost control.
• Oversee workshop operations, equipment maintenance and workforce scheduling while meeting EHS standards.
• Align production capacity and lead times with sales commitments; input on cost for new opportunities.
• Lead direct reports across Workshop, Operations, Engineering and Procurement and partner with HR on workforce planning.

Job Responsibilities

The Ops Director owns end-to-end operational delivery for ASI — production, engineering, procurement, and workshop management — ensuring safety, quality, and delivery performance that support the company's growth strategy. The role is a critical partner to the Commercial Director in resolving issues between Sales and Operations, ensuring commercial commitments to customers are realistic, deliverable, and consistently met.

Operational Leadership & Production

• Own end-to-end production operations, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery targets are met.
• Drive continuous improvement in production efficiency, throughput, and capacity planning.
• Set and monitor operational KPIs across workshop and production functions.

Engineering & Technical Oversight

• Oversee the engineering function, supporting manufacturing processes and technical problem-solving.
• Partner with the R&D/Metallurgy function on the manufacturability of new products and materials.

Long Description

Procurement & Supply Chain

• Oversee procurement and logistics for raw materials and consumables, ensuring supply continuity and cost control.
• Manage key supplier relationships and contracts.
• Monitor procurement scope and flag to the GM if strategic sourcing needs outgrow the current reporting structure.

Workshop Management

• Oversee workshop operations, equipment maintenance, and workforce scheduling.
• Ensure the shop floor meets EHS standards, working closely with the EHS function.

Commercial Alignment

• Partner with the Commercial Director to ensure production capacity and lead times align with sales commitments, particularly for the four core customers and new-market opportunities.
• Provide input on production feasibility and cost for new market or product opportunities.

Long Description

• Lead and develop direct reports across Workshop, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement.
• Partner with HR on shopfloor workforce planning, including hiring and award-compliant shift structures.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work with the Business Integration & Improvement function to help close the Sales–Operations collaboration gap.
• Collaborate with EHS on safety compliance and incident management.
• Collaborate with FP&A on operational budgeting and cost control.

Job Requirements

• 10+ years senior operations leadership experience in steel, metals manufacturing, or a heavy industrial environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary teams spanning production, engineering, and procurement.
• Track record of driving operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
• Strong understanding of EHS and manufacturing compliance requirements.
• Experience operating in shift-based, award-covered manufacturing environments.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field.
