Qualifications

Position Summary

The Senior Engineering Manager provides strategic and organizational leadership for the Process Engineering function. This role establishes the technical vision and engineering priorities required to improve manufacturing safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and process reliability.

The Senior Engineering Manager leads through Engineering Managers and technical professionals, building the systems, capabilities, and partnerships necessary to solve complex manufacturing challenges and deliver sustainable business results. The role works closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, EHS, Continuous Improvement, Research and Development, and other support functions to ensure engineering resources are aligned with the plant’s most important operational and strategic priorities.

Success in this role requires a balance of technical credibility, strategic thinking, disciplined execution, and people leadership.

Role Purpose

The Senior Engineering Manager contributes to our purpose by setting the technical vision, developing engineering talent, and aligning cross-functional efforts to drive manufacturing excellence and operational reliability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set the technical vision, engineering strategy, and roadmap aligned with plant and business priorities.
  • Convert business needs into prioritized initiatives, resources, technology investments, and long-term capability plans.
  • Lead improvements in safety, quality, delivery, throughput, productivity, cost, capability, and equipment reliability.
  • Use performance data and root-cause analysis to reduce risk, variation, and chronic losses.
  • Sponsor automation, process controls, mistake-proofing, analytics, digital manufacturing, and continuous improvement.
  • Direct the evaluation, validation, implementation, and standardization of manufacturing technologies and processes.
  • Govern engineering standards, process ownership, documentation, priorities, resources, risks, and decisions.
  • Manage projects, budgets, and capital plans with clear ownership, milestones, risks, and success measures.
  • Transfer completed projects to Operations with proper validation, documentation, training, controls, and sustainment plans.
  • Partner cross-functionally to resolve systemic issues, industrialize products and processes, and align priorities.
  • Coach Engineering Managers and technical leaders while strengthening expectations, accountability, capability, and succession.
  • Use skills matrices, Career Profiles, talent reviews, and development assignments to advance mastery and careers.
  • Embed safety, environmental, quality, compliance, and continuity requirements into engineering decisions and changes.
  • Advise plant leadership on risks, capacity, investments, technology, strategy, and major technical escalations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, manufacturing, chemical, materials, welding, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Preferred - Master’s degree MBA / engineering, engineering management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Typically 10 or more years of progressive engineering or manufacturing experience.
  • Typically five or more years of people-leadership experience, including leadership of engineering managers, engineering teams, or technical functions.
  • Demonstrated success leading manufacturing-process improvements in a complex industrial environment.
  • Experience developing engineering strategy and translating business objectives into technical priorities.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, process capability, equipment integration, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence decisions across organizational boundaries.
  • Experience managing complex projects, capital investments, budgets, and technical resources.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and executive-communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience implementing automation, process controls, digital manufacturing systems, or advanced data analytics.
  • Demonstrated experience developing technical career paths, succession plans, and skills-based development systems.
