The primary purpose of the Operating Room Technician I position is to assist with surgical procedures and related activities under the supervision of a professional nurse. The OR Technician I performs duties in accordance with the Association of Surgical Technologists’ Recommended Standards of Practice, ensuring cost-effective, quality care. They possess knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools to facilitate invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. The OR Technician I demonstrates competency in scrubbing for minor and major surgical and endoscopic procedures. This is a certified technician role. The technician participates in quality assessment, continuing education, certification, student teaching, and upholds hospital policies and standards, including those from the Association of Surgical Technologists and AORN. Performance is evaluated by the Nurse Manager and/or Educational Specialist according to OR policies.
Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician Program and eligibility to sit for the LCC-ST certifying exam are required. Certification as an Operating Room Technician (LCC-ST) and one year of related experience are preferred. Candidates must be able to walk, bend, stoop, stand for long periods, and push/pull heavy objects. A neat, professional appearance is required. Candidates should demonstrate patience, tact, attention to detail, excellent hand-eye coordination, and self-motivation. Work involves exposure to various environmental conditions, potential hazards, and infectious materials. Willingness to work with diverse team members is essential.
Credentials required: Certified Surgical Technician certification, CPR.
