Job summary

North Carolina Specialty Hospital (NCSH) is seeking an experienced OR Registered Nurse to provide perioperative care across age groups, from pediatric to geriatric. You will coordinate safe plans of care, collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR staff, and uphold standards of practice in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Qualifications include an accredited nursing degree (Assoc. degree required, BSN preferred), NC RN license or compact license, BLS, and ideally ACLS/PALS and CNOR.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Associate's degree required; BSN preferred.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the North Carolina State Board of Nursing or compact multi-state license
• BLS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire
• ACLS & PALS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) preferred; must obtain both certifications within 6 months of hire if not active
• CNOR Certification strongly preferred
• Familiar with instruments and equipment related to Perioperative Nursing
• Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity in handling instruments

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized nursing care to the surgical patient, demonstrating an extensive knowledge base to support a variety of single and multi-system illnesses and or injuries.
• Demonstrates appropriate application of age specific standards, policies, and procedures for adolescent to geriatric patients.
• Incorporates cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care.
• Demonstrates excellent communication skills and organizational ability.
• Prioritizes tasks to maintain patient safety amid interruptions.
• Documents patient care in the medical record per established standards.
• Participates in Universal Protocol and time-out procedures in every procedure.
• Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, SPD, Radiology and OR team for optimal patient outcomes.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and in development of care delivery systems.
