Operating Room Attendant

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital - Charlottesville, VA

~Full Time and Day shift~

40 hours/week

Hours: 7:00am-5:00pm (10-hour shifts), Thursdays off

On-call Requirement: 7am-7pm, Saturdays & Sundays (about 1 weekend per month)

Primary Job Responsibilities: Cleaning, mopping, transporting, opening sterile supplies, and ensuring rooms assigned have supplies needed for surgeries.

Overview

The Operating Room (OR) Attendant supports professional staff in caring for the surgical patient. This support includes transporting patients from inpatient/emergency room/ICU departments to the pre-op holding area. The OR attendant is also responsible for cleaning the operating room suites between surgical procedures. Additionally, OR Attendants support anesthesia staff by ensuring adequate stocking of anesthesia supplies in medication carts, cleaning anesthesia machines, and transporting anesthesia equipment. They also transport specimens and blood products to and from the lab and ensure proper stocking of formalin containers for specimen handling. The OR attendant assists in positioning surgical patients under the guidance of OR staff and helps prepare the operating room by opening sterile supplies onto the sterile field and ensuring all necessary equipment is available for the surgical procedure.

Preferred qualifications include experience in environmental services, acute care inventory supply, and operating room support. BLS certification is required within 90 days of hire.
