Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Operating Room Assistant to support the surgical team. The role involves transporting surgical specimens, equipment, and patient belongings, assisting in patient lifting and transfer, and maintaining a clean and safe operating environment.

This rotating full-time position requires weekend shifts and on-call coverage. The ORA will handle specimens and blood products, participate in transport operations, and support CSS functions within the OR suite.

Qualifications

• High School graduate.
• BLS (Provider) through the American Heart Association.
• Previous hospital experience preferred in transport or Environmental Service.
• Demonstrates excellent Customer service friendly skills.

Responsibilities

• Transports surgical specimens from OR to universal tube system and to pathology lab as directed.
• Transports soiled case carts to soiled lift and sends to CSS for re-sterilization.
• Transports surgical patients and assists in patient lifting, positioning and transfer as directed by nursing staff.
• Moves equipment and supplies to OR suites and ensures timely delivery of surgical instruments.
• Performs intra-op linen changes and cleans stretchers; maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
