Job summary

University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center is seeking an Operating Room Assistant to support safe, efficient surgical operations and patient care. Responsibilities include transporting patients, preparing ORs, sterilizing instruments, maintaining supplies, and providing perioperative support to the surgical team. Schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One (1) year of Operating Room Assistant or related healthcare experience preferred.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained during probationary period.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
• Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills required.
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients safely to and from the Operating Room while verifying patient identification and following established safety protocols.
• Transport specimens safely and promptly to designated areas in accordance with established procedures.
• Prepare Operating Rooms for upcoming surgical procedures, including making beds and ensuring rooms are clean, organized, and ready for the next case.
• Restock surgical supplies, monitor inventory levels, and maintain organized supply areas.
• Identify and report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and environmental hazards.
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, Sterile Processing, and Surgical Services staff to support safe and efficient Operating Room workflow.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
