IU Health University Hospital is hiring an Operating Room Assistant to join our surgical team in Indiana. This full-time role supports the team before, during, and after surgery, assists with room preparation, and helps transport patients and supplies to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma/GED, BLS certification, hospital experience preferred, and adherence to sterile technique and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Assist with operating room preparation by cleaning, procuring equipment and opening sterile supplies.
• Provide transportation and needed assistance with patient care.
• Assist Surgical Techs and Nurses with various assigned duties.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs, and other surgical personnel as a team member.

University Hospital houses 23 operating rooms (ORs) covering various service lines including Thoracic, General Surgery, Hepatobiliary, Urology, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Oral, Plastics, Ear, Nose, and Throat, as well as Abdominal Transplant (Liver, Kidney, Pancreas, Intestine, and Multivesicular). As an integral part of the Academic Health Center, our focus lies on high-acuity patient care, particularly emphasizing cancer-related treatments. We seek highly motivated individuals to join our collaborative team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.

This is a full time position working 7:00am-5:30pm Monday-Friday with a rotating day off.

Operating Room Assistants support the surgical team before, during and after surgery. Assists with operating room preparation by cleaning, procuring equipment and opening sterile supplies. Provides transportation and needed assistance with patient care. Assists Surgical Techs and Nurses with various assigned duties. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, surgical technologists and other surgical personnel.

• Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
• Previous experience in a hospital environment preferred.
• AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required.
• Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
• Requires physical stamina and proper lifting techniques.
