Job summary

IU Health North Hospital is seeking an Operating Room Assistant for a day shift with on-call and holiday requirements. The role supports the surgical team before, during and after surgery, including preparing the OR, procuring equipment and assisting with patient care.

Responsibilities include aiding Surgical Techs and Nurses, coordinating with surgeons and anesthesiologists, and maintaining sterile technique. HS diploma required; BLS certification is mandatory; hospital experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Previous hospital experience preferred.
• Must maintain sterile field and adhere to policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with OR preparation by cleaning, procuring equipment and opening sterile supplies.
• Provide transportation and needed assistance with patient care.
• Assist Surgical Techs and Nurses with assigned duties.
• Work as a team member with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs, and other surgical staff.

This position is a day shift role.On-call and Holiday required.

Operating Room Assistants support the surgical team before, during and after surgery. Assists with operating room preparation by cleaning, procuring equipment and opening sterile supplies. Provides transportation and needed assistance with patient care. Assists Surgical Techs and Nurses with various assigned duties. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, surgical technologists and other surgical personnel.

• Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
• Previous experience in a hospital environment preferred.
• AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required.
• Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
• Requires physical stamina and proper lifting techniques.
