Qualifications

Job description

Overview:

As a Certified Crane Operator, you will be responsible for operating various types of cranes to lift, move, position, and place heavy materials and objects at construction sites, manufacturing facilities, ports, or other industrial settings. Your role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of cranes while adhering to all relevant safety regulations and guidelines.

Must be a member of or willing to join International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 178

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate different types of cranes such as tower cranes, mobile cranes, overhead cranes, and hydraulic cranes.
  • Interpret and follow signals from spotters or signalers to position loads accurately.
  • Maneuver cranes to lift, lower, and move materials according to project requirements.
  • Inspect crane mechanisms and perform routine maintenance to ensure proper functioning.
  • Monitor crane operations to prevent overloading or unsafe conditions.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations and company-specific safety guidelines.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections of cranes and associated equipment to identify and address any safety hazards.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and procedures.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or accidents immediately to the appropriate personnel.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other personnel to coordinate crane operations and ensure workflow efficiency.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and project managers regarding lift plans, load capacities, and work schedules.
  • Coordinate with riggers, signalers, and ground personnel to safely lift and move loads within designated areas.
  • Maintain accurate records of crane inspections, maintenance activities, and operational logs.
  • Complete lift reports, incident reports, and other documentation as required by regulatory agencies and company policies.
    • Ensure all necessary certifications and licenses are up-to-date and readily available for inspection
    • Other duties as assigned by management.

Adhere to OSHA, NCCCO, and company safety standards at all times.

Qualifications:

Current NCCCO certification (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) required.
Proven experience operating cranes in construction, industrial, or marine environments.

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid certification as a Crane Operator issues by a recognized accredited body.
  • Proven experience operating cranes in construction, industrial, or maritime environment.
  • Strong understanding of crane safety procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, lift plans, and load charts.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures related to equipment maintenance and operation.


Knowledge of crane safety procedures, load charts, and rigging practices.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with multiple crane types (e.g., crawler, rough terrain, tower).
Familiarity with computerized crane systems and diagnostics.
