Job summary

Gulf Copper is seeking an experienced crane operator to join our team in Texas. The role involves operating cranes and other lifting equipment, following safety practices, and collaborating with rigging crews to load and unload shipments.

The ideal candidate has 1–5 years of heavy equipment experience, with NCCCO/NCCER preferred and crane signals certification. Strong communication skills and the ability to read blueprints are essential for success on this site.

Qualifications

  • Must have 1-year certificate or 3–5 years of heavy equipment operation.
  • NCCCO/NCCER preferred.
  • Trained/certified in crane signals.
  • Knowledge of communicating through radios.
  • Ability to read blueprints and diagrams.
  • Strong safety focus and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment safely in accordance with industry practices.
  • Move loads using cranes, cherry pickers, or other lifting devices.
  • Inspect and maintain cables, pulleys, and grappling components; repair as needed.
  • Inspect and replace worn cables as required.
  • Set up ground conditions and rigging accurately.
  • Direct helpers in blocking or outrigging under cranes.
  • Work at heights up to 100 feet.
  • Verify load weights against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
  • Direct truck drivers to load bays and secure loads for delivery.
  • Load or unload bundles using moving equipment.
  • Review schedules to plan orders and loading sequences.
  • Weigh bundles on floor scales and record weights.
  • Log hours and work performed for each lift.
  • Read load charts and range diagrams.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This positionis responsible forthe following: Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Operate assigned equipment safely and in accordance with good industry practices.

  1. Move levers, depress foot pedals, or turn dials to operate cranes, cherry pickers, electromagnets, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, or placing loads.

  1. Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, making repairs as necessary.

  1. Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables, as needed.

  1. Inspect ground conditions and set up accurately.

  1. Manipulate cables, chains, shackles, and other euqipment.

  1. Have the knowledge on when to use soft slings, chains, and wire ropes.

  1. Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or outrigging under cranes.

  1. Ascend and work at heights up to 100 feet.

  1. Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.

  1. Direct truck drivers backing vehicles into loading bays and cover, uncover, or secure loads for delivery.

  1. Load or unload bundles from trucks or move containers to storage bins, using moving equipment.

  1. Review daily work or delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, or special loading instructions.

  1. Weigh bundles, using floor scales, and record weights for company records.

  1. Loghours and work performedfor each lift.

  1. Read and understandload chart and range diagrams.

Required Education & Experience:
  1. One year certificate from college ortechnical school preferred.

  1. Or three -fiveyears of heavy equipment operation.

  1. NCCCO or NCCER Preferred

  1. Trained/Certified in Crane Signals

  1. Knowledge ofcommunicatingthroughradios.

Necessary Equipment Operation:
  1. American and Manatewok cranes ranging from 40 to 150 tons.

  1. Hydraulic and friction roughterrainand lattice boom.

Special Skills:
  1. Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.

  1. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches,drawings,and technical manuals.

  1. Perform basic mathematical functions.

  1. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  1. High performance anda strongteam player.
