Job summary

Texas Children's Hospital The Woodlands is seeking an Operating Engineer to perform operations and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems in a fast-paced hospital setting. Responsibilities include rounds, preventive/corrective maintenance, documentation, and emergency response to ensure reliable facility operations.

Applicants should hold required licenses listed and have at least 3 years of service technician experience; hospital environment experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED.
• Licenses/certifications as listed in the posting.
• At least 3 years of experience as a service technician.
• Preferred experience in a hospital environment.
• Respiratory fit testing may be required.

Responsibilities

• Monitors equipment, responds to alarms and emergencies and performs maintenance in assigned areas.
• Monitors boilers, chillers, AHUs, pumps, air compressors, water heaters, towers for safe, efficient operation.
• Performs engineering rounds and checks equipment for proper function and minor repairs.
• Maintains documentation of readings on rounds, equipment failures and events.
• Performs installation and repairs of failed equipment on utility systems and notifies leadership of shutdowns.
• Performs corrective maintenance including replacement of tiles, fixtures, lamps, and door hardware.
• Responds to emergencies as required across the hospital property.
• Performs preventive maintenance on buildings and systems as assigned.
• Demonstrates ownership for responsibilities in assigned zones.
• Demonstrates customer service and professional behavior through teamwork and communication.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Monitors equipment, responds to alarms, and emergencies and performs maintenance duties in assigned areas to ensure facility equipment and systems are functioning properly.
• Monitors all operating equipment and systems (boilers, chillers, AHU’s, pumps, air compressors, water heaters, cooling towers, etc.) to ensure they are operating properly and safely at maximum efficiency.
• Performs engineering rounds and checks equipment for proper operating functionality and performs minor repairs and adjustments as needed.
• Maintains documentation to accurately record readings on rounds sheets and equipment failures and events in appropriate engineering logs
• Performs installation and repairs of failed equipment and parts on utility systems according to established standards and within acceptable timeframes. Follows up to ensure equipment is repaired and functioning properly. Provides notification of equipment shutdowns to appropriate leadership and department personnel.
• Performs corrective maintenance duties including, but no limited to: replacement of ceiling tiles, floor tile, cove base, light fixtures, bulbs, lamps, and door hardware.
• Responds to all emergencies as required throughout the hospital property.
• Performs corrective maintenance duties on buildings, building systems, and equipment as assigned according to standards established by management team.
• Performs preventive maintenance duties on buildings, building systems, and equipment as assigned according to standards established by management team.
• Demonstrates ownership for responsibilities in assigned zone and other designated areas.
• Demonstrates accountability for customer service and professional behavior through personal work ethic, teamwork and effective communication skills.
