Job description

The Department of History at High Point University is seeking a Visiting Historian for one academic year, from the first full week of August 3, 2026 to May 7, 2027.

The position requires the ability to teach U.S. history courses and thematic courses that align with the applicant’s research expertise and/or teaching experience.

Responsibilities
  • Instruction of U.S. history courses and thematic courses aligned with the applicant’s research expertise.
  • Service to the university, including participation in institutional activities, active engagement in student learning outside the classroom, and upholding the university’s values and mission in recruitment activities.
  • Adherence to the variable teaching load (3:3, 3:4, or 4:4) based on applicant strengths and highest degree earned at the start of employment.
Qualifications
  • Exceptional teaching record.
  • M.A. in History or a relevant field (e.g., American studies, Public History) by August 2026.
  • Strong passion for teaching within a liberal arts core.
  • Research expertise and/or teaching experience in U.S. history.
