Job description

Position Overview

High Point University invites applications for a 9‑month, nontenure‑track Assistant Professor of English. The position begins August2026. All faculty at this rank teach a 3/3 course load, maintain a robust research and/or creative publishing agenda, and receive professional development funding and service opportunities to impact the institution’s academic life.

Teaching and Research Responsibilities
  • Teach a 3/3 course load across the writing programs, including general education and specialized courses in literature, creative writing, digital editing, and professional publishing.
  • Develop and teach courses related to the public and professional writing minor.
  • Maintain a scholarly agenda in literary, creative, or professional publishing, including publications and other scholarship.
Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, Publishing Studies, or a closely related field earned by August2026.
  • Expertise and prior work experience in literary, creative, and/or professional publishing.
  • Record of scholarship related to literary, creative, and/or professional publishing.
  • Understanding of GenAI implications for writing, editing, and publishing and ability to incorporate them instructionally.

Initial screening will begin on November21, and the position will remain open until filled. Applicants should submit a cover letter and CV. After initial review, selected candidates will be contacted for an interview, and may be asked to provide a teaching portfolio (including recent syllabi, assignments, and course evaluations) and a research or creative publishing plan.
