It currently has 22 research and teaching faculty. Since 2014, the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences has made significant investments in the department, leading to a three-fold growth in faculty, a six-fold increase in undergraduate majors, and several new statistics courses, degree programs, and initiatives. Faculty and students work closely with biostatisticians in the adjacent School of Medicine, as well as with UVA’s Quantitative Collaborative (Social Sciences), School of Data Science, and other departments and schools; interests range from theoretical to applied statistics (including statistics in the physical, medical, and social sciences), with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaborations. Regular tenured and tenure-track faculty teach three courses per year, and all faculty advise students.

Position Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics (or a related field with evidence of extensive training in statistics) by the start date. Applicants should show strong potential to contribute to the Department’s mission to advance research in statistics, engage in external funding opportunities, mentor junior faculty, excel in teaching and advising at all levels of students in statistics, provide service to the department, university and professional organizations, and have a demonstrated record of strong leadership in research and the statistics profession at large.
