Job description

Open rank tenure-track faculty position, School of Social Work

Main Campus - Boston, MA
R10206

Simmons University School of Social Work is now accepting applications from scholars at all levels (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor), based on experience. Preferred expertise includes clinical practice interventions, military social work, trauma, healthcare, children and adolescent mental health, addictions, global social work/study abroad, and public policy, though all substantive areas, including macro practice, will be considered. This is a full-time, tenure-track, nine-month academic appointment, primarily teaching in our MSW or BSW programs, with opportunities across BSW, MSW, DSW, and PhD programs. Positions are based in Boston, with possible start dates of January 1, 2025, or July 1, 2025, depending on the candidate's availability.

The School of Social Work (SSW), founded in 1904, was the first to offer clinical social work training and remains a pioneer in social work education. SSW emphasizes transformative learning through small classes, experiential opportunities, and faculty mentorship. Its programs focus on developing strong skills, career readiness, and social justice. Faculty expertise includes racism, family violence, immigration, health policy, disparities, aging, behavioral health, substance abuse, child maltreatment, social policy, and social work education innovations.

Simmons BSW students are passionate about scholarship, community, change, and social justice. The BSW program, fully accredited by CSWE, prepares students for entry-level social work roles. The MSW program, also CSWE-accredited, offers rigorous clinical training for diverse populations, with a focus on practice, high licensing exam pass rates, and employment success. It is available on campus and online via SocialWork@Simmons, with specialty certificates in areas such as clinical practice with service members, healthcare, trauma, school social work, and public policy.

The PhD in Social Work prepares experienced practitioners for research careers, offered online nationwide. The DSW focuses on inclusive leadership, clinical practice, and teaching, grounded in social justice, preparing clinicians to lead in education and practice. Faculty may be involved in doctoral education.

Simmons University, located in Boston's Longwood Medical Area, is a small, collegial university offering undergraduate and graduate programs with a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion. The university encourages applications from underrepresented groups and is dedicated to inclusive hiring and community development.
