Job description

The Department of Economics at Rice University in Houston, Texas,invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty positionin Labor Economics and/or Public Economics, beginning July 1, 2027.The rank is open. Candidates at the Assistant Professor levelshould have completed the Ph.D. in Economics or a closely relatedfield by the date of appointment. Candidates at the Associate or FullProfessor level should have a record of scholarship commensuratewith appointment at that rank at a leading researchdepartment.

We seek a scholar whose research addresses substantive questions inlabor or public economics, broadly defined, including but notlimited to human capital formation over the life cycle,intergenerational mobility, the design and evaluation of tax andtransfer programs, labor market institutions and wage-setting, andthe labor market consequences of technological change. Both empirical and structuralapproaches are welcome. The successful candidate will join adepartment with substantial depth in applied microeconomics andwill have opportunities for collaboration through the Center forEconomic Mobility.

Responsibilities include research, teaching at the undergraduateand graduate levels, and service to the Department and theUniversity.
