Job description

OpenRankFacultyPositionsinAerospaceEngineering

The Department of Aerospace Engineering at Auburn University invites applications for multiple open-rank faculty positions (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). Applications are welcome from candidates in all areas of aerospace engineering. The department particularly welcomes applications from candidates whose research and teaching align with strategic growth areas, including hypersonics and advanced aerospace materials; experimental aerospace engineering, testing, and evaluation; AI integration with aerospace systems; advanced propulsion for aerospace and space applications; and space systems engineering, hardware development, integration, and testing.

Successful candidates will contribute to the department's mission by (i) developing a strong, nationally recognized, externally funded research program, (ii) teaching aerospace engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and (iii) participating in service activities that support the department, university, and profession. Candidates should demonstrate a record of, or strong potential for, scholarly achievement, a clear vision for future research, a commitment to engineering education, and strong communication skills. For appointments at the Associate or Full Professor level, particular emphasis will be placed on the strength of the candidate's research program and their potential to provide leadership and mentorship within a rapidly growing department. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

The Department of Aerospace Engineering is one of the fastest-growing programs at Auburn University, with enrollment exceeding 750 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students and a faculty of eighteen tenure-track faculty and four lecturers. The department is building nationally recognized research and graduate programs supported by the resources of the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering and several interdisciplinary research centers. Its proximity to major aerospace, defense, and space enterprises across the Southeast provides exceptional opportunities for research collaboration, innovation, and workforce impact.

Auburn University is a leading public land-grant institution recognized for excellence in education, research, and student success. With more than 35,000 students, Auburn offers a vibrant campus environment, strong academic programs, and an outstanding quality of life. Located within a rapidly growing aerospace, defense, and technology corridor, Auburn provides faculty with exceptional opportunities for collaboration, professional engagement, and economic impact.

The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the U.S. at the time the appointment begins and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
