Job summary

RIO TINTO in Boron, CA, is seeking a talented Manager to lead the Mine Technical Services group at our open-pit mine. You will lead a staff of engineers and technicians delivering technical solutions to develop the mine plan and mining strategy.

Reporting to the Mine Manager you will drive long-range and LOM planning, geology, hydrogeology, tailings and geotechnical functions, while ensuring safety and alignment with company values.

Responsibilities

• Manages day-to-day and strategic direction of mine engineering including long-range and LOM planning.
• Creates an inclusive work environment and works with employees to ensure the work and behaviors of the team align with Company values.
• Management and execution of mine development projects to improve safety, optimize assets, ensure the mine meets its annual production plans, and ensure the future expansion of mine operations.
• Manages daily mine engineering functions with mine operations.
• Plans and supervises the work of a staff of professional engineers and technicians to accomplish mine planning scenarios and analysis.
• Reviews technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems and personally helps in solving difficult technical problems.
• Optimizes the deployment of the technical workforce as priorities change by managing mine site and corporate requirements.
• Oversees mine design, economic evaluation, cost estimating, productivity forecasting, equipment selection, and production scheduling on a wide range of studies from pre-scoping to feasibility studies.
• Incorporates, investigates, and develops best practices in areas of property evaluation, mine engineering design and scheduling, and alternate mining technology.
