Job summary

Peabody Energy, Inc. is seeking an Open Cut Operator Trainer to develop and deliver immersive learning experiences for surface mine employees using simulation technologies, VR, AR, and other interactive tools.

You will ensure operators gain knowledge and safe practices to operate equipment and perform mining activities while complying with MSHA regulations. The role emphasizes hands-on facilitation, content development aligned with procedures, and continuous improvement of safety training

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of surface coal mining experience required.
  • Knowledge of MSHA regulations and mining safety standards.
  • Experience operating heavy mining equipment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and coaching skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate immersive and hands-on training programs for new hires and experienced employees.
  • Conduct equipment operation training using simulators and VR platforms for mining equipment.
  • Develop and maintain training content aligned with procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor trainee performance and provide coaching and remediation as needed.
  • Track and document employee training records and competency assessments.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Safety, Maintenance, and HR to identify training needs and skill gaps.
  • Ensure materials remain current with procedures, equipment changes, and MSHA requirements.
  • Support onboarding and annual refresher training.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of immersive learning solutions and suggest improvements.
  • Promote safety culture through interactive learning and behavioral initiatives.

Job Summary

The Immersive Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating immersive learning experiences for surface coal mine employees using simulation technologies, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and other interactive training tools. This role ensures employees gain the knowledge, skills, and safe work practices necessary to operate equipment and perform mining activities efficiently while complying with company policies and MSHA regulations.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate immersive and hands-on training programs for new hires and experienced employees.
  • Conduct equipment operation training using simulators and VR platforms for haul trucks, dozers, loaders, excavators, drills, and other mining equipment.
  • Develop and maintain training content aligned with operational procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor trainee performance and provide coaching, feedback, and remediation as needed.
  • Track and document employee training records and competency assessments.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Safety, Maintenance, and HR teams to identify training needs and skill gaps.
  • Ensure all training materials remain current with company procedures, equipment changes, and MSHA requirements.
  • Support onboarding programs and annual refresher training.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of immersive learning solutions and recommend improvements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through interactive learning experiences and behavioral safety initiatives.
  • Assist with incident investigations by identifying training opportunities and corrective actions.
  • Maintain training equipment, simulators, VR hardware, and related software.
Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Experience operating heavy mining equipment.

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Training, Mining Technology, Occupational Safety, or related field.
  • Experience with VR/AR learning platforms and mining simulators.
  • Adult learning or training certifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of surface mining processes and equipment.
  • Ability to teach technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to assess competencies and develop individualized training plans.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS).

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office, classroom, simulator, and field environments.
