Job summary

Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, is seeking a Lab Processing Assistant II to support the Receiving unit within the Animal Health Diagnostic Center. The role involves handling incoming samples, entering data in LIMS, and working within a team on a rotating bench schedule.

The position requires a high school diploma with up to one year of experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle confidential information.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and up to one year of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate across levels.
• Works well both independently and within a team environment.
• Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with tact and discretion.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at computer stations or benches.

Responsibilities

• Receive and open packages, confirm completeness and accuracy of all incoming samples and submission forms.
• Enter submission information into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and perform any additional paperwork related to the case.
• Participate in a rotational bench schedule within the Receiving unit.
• Contact clients concerning any problems and/or discrepancies related to submissions.
• Work with unit leadership, Veterinary Support Service staff and other subject matter experts to resolve client questions.
• Receive and process routine submissions delivered overnight, at the Receiving window.
• Assist laboratory units with sample related issues.
