Job summary

Plantscape, Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Staff Accountant to support accuracy and timeliness of financial information. This full-time, onsite role reports to the Controller and spans general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, strong Excel skills, GAAP knowledge, and the ability to work independently and cross-functionally with other departments.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations is required.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field strongly preferred; equivalent relevant accounting experience will be considered
• Basic knowledge of GAAP is required
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong Word/Outlook; familiarity with SharePoint is a plus
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting and financial statements

Responsibilities

• Assist the Controller with month-end and year-end close activities and help maintain an organized close process
• Prepare and post recurring, adjusting, and other journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation under the Controller’s direction
• Prepare monthly general ledger and balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items
• Prepare and maintain month-end schedules, supporting workpapers, and other recurring accounting documentation
• Support fixed asset, lease, inventory, and other balance sheet accounting schedules and related reconciliations
• Prepare documentation and supporting schedules for external audits and assist with audit requests under the Controller’s direction
• Support the transition of financial data and accounting processes to new or upgraded systems, including a cloud-based transition
• Cross-train as backup for critical accounting functions
• Maintain complete, accurate, organized, confidential financial records
• Participate in departmental meetings as needed
• Perform additional accounting duties and special projects as assigned
