Job summary

The Brigham and Women’s Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant to support healthcare teams with both clinical and non-clinical patient services. You will take vital signs, document information, schedule appointments, and help manage patient flow under the direction of providers.

Responsibilities include preparing exam rooms, collecting specimens, explaining procedures, and coordinating with physicians and nursing staff to ensure efficient, compassionate care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
• BLS certification and CMA/National Certification preferred.
• 1–2 years direct MA experience or medical field work required.

Responsibilities

• Assist healthcare teams with patient services under guidance of providers.
• Show patients to examination rooms and prepare equipment; interview patients, record vitals, weight, and height.
• Explain procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions; provide patient education materials.
• Perform general office duties: answer phones, take dictation, and assist with insurance forms; coordinate with departments and advocate for patients.
• Collect blood/tissue samples; log specimens and prepare for testing; perform phlebotomy if competent.
• Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates; administer immunizations when certified.
• Support departmental quality initiatives such as patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
