Job summary

Vaco by Highspring in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Payroll Specialist to own the payroll process in a hands-on, standalone role. This Direct Hire, full-time position is 100% onsite and handles biweekly payroll for about 100 employees, working closely with HR and Accounting to ensure accuracy and compliance.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of hands-on payroll processing, strong auditing and reconciliation skills, and proficient Excel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience.
• Experience independently managing payroll from start to finish.
• Strong payroll auditing, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of payroll compliance, overtime calculations, and timekeeping processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Pivot Tables preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work independently.
• Experience supporting hourly employees and multi-state payroll is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage biweekly payroll for approximately 100 employees.
• Review and audit payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Monitor time and attendance records, pay rates, overtime, and payroll discrepancies.
• Partner with HR, Accounting, and Operations to resolve payroll-related issues.
• Process payroll adjustments, employee terminations, and final payments.
• Prepare payroll reports, overtime analysis, and other payroll metrics.
• Proactively identify errors, investigate discrepancies, and recommend solutions.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of employee information.
