Job summary

E Tech Group in Portage, IN is seeking a Controls Engineer to develop, implement, test, and startup automation solutions for metals industry applications. You will work closely with project managers and engineers to leverage controls, instrumentation, networking, and software development expertise to deliver high-value systems.

This onsite role offers off-shift hours (3pm-11pm or 11pm-7am) and opportunities to mentor junior engineers while collaborating across teams to meet project budgets,

Qualifications

• BS in engineering or equivalent technical background.
• 3+ years experience with AC/DC motors and drives, PLCs, and HMIs.
• Industrial automation experience across controls, instrumentation, networking, and software development.
• Proven ability to lead field startup testing and site acceptance.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement automation and control systems for metals industry applications.
• Collaborate with engineering and support teams to ensure project success.
• Manage project budgets and schedules.
• Develop and maintain standards and best practices.
• Create system and communication architectures for industrial projects.
• Specify and configure hardware like drives, switchgear, and control panels.
• Perform functional testing of electrical and control systems.
• Provide guidance to junior engineers and mentoring.
• Support sales with technical solutions development.
• Uphold core values and client-focused outcomes.
