ROCHESTER GAS & ELEC CORP in Rochester, NY is seeking an Engineer - Network to design, implement, and maintain secure, resilient utility-grade communications systems that support electric and gas grid operations across a large service territory.

The role spans IP networking, telecom transport, mobile radio systems, and P2P communications, ensuring high availability for mission-critical SCADA, field operations, and corporate connectivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred.
• Relevant experience and training.
• Must be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.
• Strong written and verbal skills required.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize enterprise WAN/LAN, MPLS, fiber, microwave
• Engineer, maintain, and troubleshoot LMR systems (VHF/UHF, P25, DMR)
• Deploy P2P microwave, RF, and fiber links for substation backhaul and SCADA
• Implement BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, ACLs, QoS on Cisco platforms
• VPN encryption, MACsec, 802.1X, and CIP security controls
• Support DWDM, SONET, and high-capacity Ethernet backhaul
• Use SNMP, DPI, and analytics for uptime and incident response
• Create Visio diagrams and telecom standards
• Coordinate with operations, IT security, and carriers
