Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to support a long-term Navy program focused on enterprise network operations, vulnerability management, and rapid patching initiatives. This position is 100% onsite in Norfolk, VA, and supports one of the world's largest enterprise intranet environments spanning Navy installations across CONUS and OCONUS.

The Network Engineer will support accelerated vulnerability remediation, IOS/IOS-XR upgrades, security patching, and network engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 8–12 years of relevant professional experience
• Minimum 7 years of network engineering, operations, or enterprise infrastructure experience
• Active DoD Secret clearance
• DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE)
• Active OEM networking OS certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA)
• Minimum 5 years hands-on enterprise network engineering experience

Responsibilities

• Execute enterprise network vulnerability remediation and patching across thousands of devices
• Perform OS upgrades, security patches, firmware updates, and vulnerability remediation
• Support patching efforts across Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, F5, and Palo Alto infrastructure
• Assess advisories and patch availability for rapid remediation planning
• Validate patching procedures and device readiness before deployment
• Troubleshoot routing/switching issues across LAN/WAN/WLAN and network boundary environments
• Coordinate with automation teams for patching/configuration management
• Assist with Python/Ansible automation to improve patching efficiency
• Develop and maintain EIPs, change-management tickets, and technical docs
• Communicate progress and risks to leadership and stakeholders
• Participate in maintenance windows, on-call rotations, and after-hours support
