Job summary

Duke University's Office of Information Technology is seeking a hands-on Low Voltage Installation Specialist to join the project team, supporting new construction, renovations, and upgrades across Duke facilities. You will install, test, and support cabling and infrastructure enabling network connectivity and security systems.

The role emphasizes practical installation work, collaboration with construction teams, and adherence to Duke standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years of experience in communications cabling installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Experience working on commercial construction and major renovation projects.
• Experience installing and supporting structured cabling systems.
• Valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and label Cat6A and single-mode fiber optic cabling for enterprise technology systems.
• Deploy and support wireless access points, structured cabling systems, and related network infrastructure.
• Install and configure IP-based video surveillance systems and associated hardware.
• Implement card access and physical security technologies throughout university facilities.
• Support Distributed Antenna System (DAS) infrastructure installations, including passive devices and cabling components.
• Collaborate with construction teams, contractors, network engineers, Duke University Police, and other stakeholders on technology projects.
• Ensure all installations meet Duke standards for quality, testing, labeling, and documentation.
• Prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments while meeting deadlines and customer expectations.
