Job summary

Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center in Bandon, OR is seeking a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist to assist the Laboratory Manager with daily operations, serve as the on-site leadership resource during absences, and provide day-to-day technical and operational support to staff.

Requirements include a NAACLS-accredited MLS program or equivalent, MLS certification within six months, CLIA 88 compliance, ongoing recertification, and eligibility for certification maintenance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with NAACLS MLS program or equivalent required
• Bachelor’s + 1–2 years MLS experience acceptable to ASCP/AMT
• MLS certification from ASCP/AMT within 6 months of hire
• Compliance with CLIA 88 493.1489 requirements
• Maintain MLS certifications via continuing education
• Pass National Certification Examination

Responsibilities

• Lead the laboratory staff and assist the Laboratory Manager with daily operations
• Act as the on-site leadership resource during planned or unplanned absences
• Oversee workflow, staff training, and compliance with lab policies and procedures
• Collect, process, and test specimens as needed and review results for reporting
• Maintain instruments, testing materials, and equipment QA

Education

Bachelor's degree with completion of NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist program

Bachelor's degree & one to two years of Medical Laboratory Scientist experience/training acceptable to the ASCP or AMT

Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT within six months of hire date

Meet CLIA 88 requirements of 493.1489 of the Federal Register Vol. 57, No. 40

Maintain MLS certifications through continuing education

Successfully complete National Certification Examination
