Job summary

Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center in Bandon, OR is seeking a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist to oversee daily operations and provide leadership when the Laboratory Manager is unavailable. The role includes supervising staff workflow, ensuring compliance with lab policies, processing specimens, testing, QA, equipment maintenance, and accurate reporting with proper patient identification.

US citizenship or work authorization is required; NAACLS MLS, MLS certification within 6 months, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with NAACLS MLS program completed.
• Bachelor’s degree with 1–2 years MLS experience acceptable.
• MLS certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
• Meet CLIA 88 requirements of 493.1489.
• Maintain MLS certifications through continuing education.
• Pass National Certification Examination.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lab Manager with daily laboratory operations.
• Provide leadership when Lab Manager is unavailable.
• Collect, process, and test specimens submitted to the clinical laboratory.
• Review and report results on specimens tested in the Clinical Laboratory.
• Ensure proper identification of patients, specimens, orders and data.
