Job summary

Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services team in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Lab/Inventory Technician to manage laboratory and warehouse inventory, perform cycle counts, and support shipping and receiving to keep operations running smoothly.

The role requires a high school diploma (science-related degree preferred) and experience with inventory systems, barcode scanning, and handling hazardous materials. Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; science-related degree preferred.
  • Experience in inventory management, stock control and warehouse operations.
  • Laboratory support experience with knowledge of inventory systems, barcode scanning, and handheld devices.
  • Ability to perform cycle counts, audits, inventory reconciliations and POU inventory management.
  • Experience handling chemicals, reagents, hazardous materials, and biohazard waste in a regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment including autoclaves; proficiency with inventory software and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of SOPs, safety protocols and regulatory compliance; strong record-keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Manage laboratory and warehouse inventory through barcode scanning, replenishment, cycle counts and inventory tracking systems.
  • Monitor and maintain Point-of-Use locations, resolve stock shortages and distribute supplies across labs.
  • Collect, process, sterilize, and redistribute glassware and supplies using autoclaves and washers.
  • Support daily operations by managing lab coats, scrubs, reagents, and other materials.
  • Safely handle hazardous materials and waste in compliance with safety regulations and SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate records and run inventory reports using inventory management systems.
  • Cross-train and provide backup across multiple lab and warehouse functions.

Job description

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the Onsite Supervisor and will work closely with the Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Location: Cambridge, MA

Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Overtime: Occasional and voluntary

Hourly Rate: $24.00 - $26.00

What we're looking for:
Education
  • High school diploma required; science-related degree preferred
Experience
  • Experience in inventory management, stock control, warehouse operations, and material handling.
  • Laboratory support experience with knowledge of inventory systems, barcode scanning, and handheld devices.
  • Ability to perform cycle counts, audits, inventory reconciliations, and Point-of-Use (POU) inventory management.
  • Experience handling chemicals, reagents, hazardous materials, and biohazard waste in a regulated environment.

  • Effective communication and customer service skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexible and adaptable in supporting multiple laboratory and operational functions.
  • Ability to lift, transport, and move laboratory and warehouse materials as needed.

Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

In this role you will:
  • Manage laboratory and warehouse inventory through barcode scanning, replenishment, cycle counts, audits, and inventory tracking systems.
  • Monitor and maintain Point-of-Use (POU) locations, resolve stock shortages, and distribute supplies, reagents, and materials across assigned laboratory spaces.
  • Collect, process, sterilize, and redistribute laboratory glassware and supplies while operating equipment such as autoclaves and glassware washers.
  • Support daily laboratory operations by managing lab coats, scrubs, reagents, chemicals, and other critical materials.
  • Safely handle hazardous materials, chemical reagents, and biohazard waste in compliance with safety regulations and SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate records, inventory documentation, and operational reports using computer and inventory management systems.
  • Participate in safety, compliance, and training programs while assisting with SOP updates.
  • Cross-train and provide backup support across multiple laboratory and warehouse functions to ensure uninterrupted operations.
