Job summary

Avantor is seeking a role in Saint Louis, MO to support Lab and Production Services with inventory management, shipping coordination, and purchasing functions. The position emphasizes accuracy, safety, and adherence to GMP and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; higher degree preferred.
  • 2+ years in customer services, purchasing, or account management.
  • GMP/pharma environment experience preferred.
  • 1+ years of face-to-face customer service required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong safety, quality, and protocol adherence.
  • Ability to self-manage, meet deadlines, and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inventory management and accurate movement reporting.
  • Supervise slow-moving inventory and conduct cycle counts.
  • Handle purchasing tasks including quotes, orders, and invoicing.
  • Coordinate shipping and verify documentation.
  • Manage hazardous materials and shipping paperwork.
  • Analyze data to improve inventory accuracy and metrics.
  • Investigate quality events and support root-cause analysis.

Job description

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the supervisor of site services and will work closely with the Avantor’s Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4 pm

Location: Saint Louis, MO

What we’re looking for
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Associate/Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Experience: 2+ years of applicable experience in customer services/purchasing/or account management

  • Collaboration Tool: Microsoft Teams experience

  • 2+ years of experience working in a GMP or pharmaceutical environment is preferred

  • 1+ years of face-to-face customer service experience is required

  • Knowledge of intermediate digital literacy including Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Excel

  • Solid understanding and experience in either shipping, inventory, or purchasing

  • Excellent Customer Service Skills: displays a professional can-do demeanor

  • High regard for safety, quality, and adherence to protocols, policies, and procedures

  • Ability to self-manage and self-motivate, forward-thinking

  • Prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

In this role you will:
  • Be responsible for tasks in inventory management (Consumables, chemicals, samples, etc.) and accurate inventory control, processing requests leading to inventory movement on and off-site and fulfilling the customer's metric reporting.

  • Supervising slow-moving and dead inventory, conducting cycle counting, yearly physical inventories, and reporting.

  • Work purchasing functions including but not limited to back-order reporting, order entry and expediting, direct factory shipments, 3rd party support, handling quotes, document control, records maintenance, and resolving open invoices or pricing issues.

  • Performs shipping coordination activities such as shipping customer material, handling routine issues, operating basic warehouse equipment, entering shipping information into the customer computer system, and equipment inspections.

  • Responsible for handling hazardous material and preparing shipping documentation and packaging requirements.

  • Captures, trends, and analyzes data generated to provide sample metrics updates and improve inventory accuracy.

  • Documents and investigates quality events associated with manufacturing operations to ensure effective root-cause analysis, corrective action plans determination, product impact, and remediation.
