Job summary

IDEXX in Westbrook, ME is seeking an Application Developer to join a team building software solutions enabling IDEXX teams to access essential data for product development and innovation. This onsite role requires five days per week on site, with occasional flexibility.

You will design, build, test, deploy, and continuously improve mission-critical software, including web apps and backend services that support product development initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong fundamentals in software design and programming across languages and paradigms (e.g., object-oriented).
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs and web services.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new languages, frameworks, and technologies and apply them to unfamiliar business domains.
• Working with a relational database in a production environment (e.g., MySQL) and an ORM/persistence framework (e.g., Spring Data JPA, Hibernate).
• Familiarity with authentication, authorization, and session management concepts, including frameworks such as Spring Security.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills with the ability to work through complex technical challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and continuously improve mission-critical software, including web applications and backend services that support product development initiatives.
• Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to understand challenges, identify opportunities, and deliver practical software solutions.
• Partner with cross-functional teams across IDEXX to ensure data systems and applications effectively support product development and operational goals.
• Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
• Contribute to the design of scalable, reliable, and maintainable software systems that support business growth and evolving product needs.
• Help product teams understand technical considerations and potential risks while identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Learn new technologies, frameworks, and tools as needed and apply them to solve business problems in a rapidly evolving environment.
• Work as a self-directed team member who values collaboration, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality solutions.
