Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a maintenance technician to perform routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair on electrical and mechanical systems across production equipment and plant systems. You will collaborate with the production team and contribute to operational impact.

Ideal candidates have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, familiarity with AC/DC drives, PLCs, and reading drawings, plus a commitment to safety and quality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Military training and/or Technical School preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with extensive troubleshooting experience.
• Experience troubleshooting in a production/manufacturing environment.
• Operational knowledge of automated industrial machinery including motors, servos, pumps, drives, relays, 3 phase power, communication devices, industrial/electronic controls and power transmission systems.
• Ability to install and set up both AC and DC drives.
• Install and troubleshoot basic 3 phase motor control circuits.
• Knowledge of sensors and limit switches.
• Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
• Fully computer literate with Microsoft environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a mature and professional manner.
• Basic mathematical and computer skills.
• Electrical and PLC knowledge (troubleshooting) preferred.
• Corrugated background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure production machinery functions correctly and efficiently.
• Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, electrical, hydraulic, compressor, and vacuum systems.
• Work on motors and conveyors, AC/DC systems.
• Handle steam and boiler controls and mechanical power drives.
• Perform predictive and preventative maintenance activities.
• Adhere to plant safety and environmental guidelines and procedures.
• Complete timely and accurate paperwork.
