Job summary

Cisco's Optical Group is seeking a Hardware Engineer to join the system hardware team in Carlsbad, CA. You will design and analyze high-speed PCBs and substrates for next-generation optical modules, collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineers to define hardware architecture and ensure product reliability.

The role involves schematic design, layout, power simulation, and material selection, with hands-on testing support and design reviews to meet performance targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience, or Master's with 3+ years.
• Experience in digital, analog and power circuit design.
• Hands-on PCB/substrate design from concept to release.
• Experience with high-efficiency DC-DC power conversion design and circuit simulation.
• Proficiency with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Define hardware architecture and board-level design strategy considering test, qualification, SI, and PI requirements.
• Conduct schematic design, PCB layout, power simulation, and component selection.
• Collaborate with layout engineers on placement and routing for optimal SI and PI.
• Select PCB materials and stack-up; address DFM with vendors.
• Support prototype testing, bring-up, validation and troubleshooting.
• Lead PCB design reviews and ensure performance and reliability targets are met.
