Job summary

State of Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife seeks a Fish Culture Assistant Supervisor for the Grand Lake Stream Hatchery. This on-site role leads fish culture operations, supervises staff, and coordinates outreach while reporting to the Fish Culture Supervisor.

The position requires biology/fisheries background, strong leadership, and the ability to live on site to ensure security and operations. Salary ranges reflect nine step increases and yearly performance reviews.

Qualifications

• Background in biology, fish culture, or fisheries with experience in controlled environments.
• Experience coordinating multifaceted maintenance operations.
• Valid Maine Class B Driver’s License.
• Willingness to live on site to provide facility security.
• Experience supervising staff and managing field operations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise on-station fish culturists and direct all on-station programs.
• Ensure day-to-day operations and project timelines are met.
• Assist fisheries biologist staff with program delivery and data recording.
• Oversee outreach events and coordinate with Information and Education Division.
• Represent the agency professionally in external partnerships and to the public.
