Job summary

State of Maine seeks a Fish Culture Supervisor for the Grand Lake Stream Hatchery. This full-time role provides planning, coordination, and administrative oversight of a fish production facility to enhance statewide recreational fishing and conserve native species.

The incumbent supervises staff, coordinates with the Superintendent of Hatcheries, oversees operations from broodstock to facility maintenance, and leads outreach initiatives while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety.

Qualifications

• Intermediate to advanced education or experience in biology, fish culture, or fisheries.
• Experience coordinating operations and regulatory matters.
• Ability to develop fish production plans aligned with agency goals.
• Valid Maine Class B Driver’s License required.
• Willingness to live on-site for facility security and response readiness.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities for a team and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Fish Culture Assistant Supervisor and oversee facility operations.
• Manage fish husbandry, broodstock, maintenance, and security of facility infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with wastewater discharge licenses and safety standards.
• Coordinate budgeting, funding needs, and procurement of materials and services.
• Develop and implement outreach programs aligned with division goals.
• Collaborate with the Superintendent of Hatcheries and external partners; liaise with Fisheries Leadership.
