Job summary

DEPARTMENT OF INLAND FISHERIES & WILDLIFE is seeking a Fish Culture Assistant Supervisor to oversee operations at one of eight fish culture facilities. You will supervise fish culturists, direct on-station work programs, and coordinate outreach aligned with Division goals.

The role involves professional and scientific support to fisheries biology staff, with emphasis on fish husbandry, stocking, and facility maintenance. Some weekend/holiday work and living on site are required.

Qualifications

• Background in biology, fish culture, or fisheries with demonstrated competence coordinating maintenance operations.
• Valid Maine Class B Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to permanent status.
• Willingness to live on site to provide security and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Supervise on-station fish culturists and direct all on-station work programs.
• Ensure day-to-day operations occur timely and safely.
• Provide professional and scientific support to fisheries staff.
• Oversee fish culturist-led public educational and outreach events and coordinate with Education Division.
