Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and integrate software for embedded systems across the full development lifecycle. You will collaborate with hardware engineers, translate requirements, and contribute to proposal efforts with task estimates, while ensuring robust and compliant solutions.

The role emphasizes hands-on development in C and Python, test automation, and CI/CD support, with an onsite Melbourne, FL location and a contract-to-hire pathway.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with embedded software development and testing across the full lifecycle.
• Strong hands-on experience developing and debugging embedded software using C.
• Hands-on experience using Python for test automation, scripting, and tooling.
• Experience with requirements analysis, traceability, and verification activities.
• Familiarity with embedded hardware concepts, microcontrollers, and real-time systems.
• Ability to design, implement, and maintain automated test environments for embedded software.
• Solid understanding of Linux environments for development and testing.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for embedded systems and software defects.
• Ability to create clear technical documentation, test plans, and design records.
• Effective communication skills to explain technical solutions and present results to internal teams and customers.

Responsibilities

• Perform full lifecycle development for embedded systems, including implementation, unit testing, integration, and formal sell-off testing.
• Review customer requirements, translate them into detailed specifications, and produce technical documentation, designs, operational concepts, and effort estimates.
• Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of software with electronic components, boards, and embedded hardware platforms.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures, perform debugging and troubleshooting, and ensure compliance with functional and performance specifications.
• Conduct design and code reviews, resolve defects, and adhere to established development processes, configuration management practices, and release procedures.
• Design, develop, maintain, and debug embedded software applications using C and Python.
• Develop and execute automated test scripts and maintain automated test environments for embedded software systems.
