Job summary

TOTAL Mechanical is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant in Pewaukee, WI, to support financial success from setup through closeout. You’ll partner with Project Managers, Operations, Payroll, and Accounting to maintain accurate job costs, prepare billings, support revenue recognition, and deliver clear project financial reporting.

Location: Pewaukee, WI; Schedule: Full-time, onsite; Classification: Non-exempt.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent education/experience may be considered.
• Three+ years of accounting experience preferred, ideally in construction, engineering, or project-based industries.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, project billing, financial analysis, and month-end processes.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Viewpoint Spectrum or similar ERP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain projects, budgets, cost codes, contracts, and change orders in the ERP system.
• Monitor labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs for accuracy and proper coding.
• Prepare progress, time-and-material, and AIA-style customer billings in accordance with contract requirements.
• Support monthly revenue recognition, work-in-progress reporting, forecasting, and project close activities.
• Analyze project performance, cost-to-complete trends, profitability, cash flow, and financial variances.
• Monitor receivables and collaborate with Project Managers and customers to resolve billing and collection issues.
• Maintain contracts, lien waivers, certificates of insurance, change orders, and other project documentation.
• Provide accurate financial information and clear variance explanations during project review meetings.
