Job summary

City of Phoenix ITS is seeking a Communications Engineer to join the Telecommunications Infrastructure team. The role focuses on engineering and maintaining the City’s enterprise network, including fiber optic and copper systems, and requires handling OSP/ISP Layer 1 infrastructure across a large municipal footprint.

Responsibilities include leading large projects, reviewing plans, coordinating with utilities and vendors, and administering asset data in SAP and ESRI.

Qualifications

  • Three years of professional electrical, electronic, or communications engineering experience involving design, installation, service and maintenance of electronic security or communications systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronic, or communications engineering, or related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Manage large communications projects, including final construction plans and specifications.
  • Review plans, scope of work, and agreements.
  • Direct and inspect contractor work and crews.
  • Oversee the City's fiber optic backbone within the public right of way.
  • Coordinate utility conflict resolution during improvements and connectivity issues.
  • Create intergovernmental agreements for infrastructure partnerships within right of way.
  • Administer infrastructure asset management data in SAP PM and ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Support leadership with other responsibilities as needed.
