Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions seeks a Backend Data Engineer to support the US Navy in Norfolk, VA. This 100% onsite role focuses on backend data engineering, ETL, and data infrastructure for enterprise reporting.

Responsibilities include building data pipelines, integrating legacy systems, and enabling Power BI reporting in DoD environments. A Secret clearance is required to work on sensitive Navy data assets.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years hands-on data engineering experience.
• Active Secret clearance required.
• IAT Level II certification.
• Hands-on with data pipelines and ETL/integration.
• Strong SQL/database experience and data transformation.
• Experience supporting Power BI or enterprise reporting.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data pipelines for Navy/DoD.
• Use Azure Data Factory to build connections between systems.
• Ingest, transform, and prepare data for reporting and analytics.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and data repositories.
• Move data between platforms and troubleshoot pipeline issues.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on data requirements and reporting needs.
• Create data solutions feeding Power BI and BI tools.
• Document data flows, architectures, and dependencies.
• Support modern cloud and legacy data environments.
• Work with front-end/BI-focused engineer to ensure reporting needs.
