Job summary
McMaster-Carr seeks a Reliability and Automation Technician to maximize uptime of automated systems at our Elmhurst, IL facility. You will diagnose faults across conveyors, robotics, PLC panels, and VFDs, while performing preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and improve process reliability.
The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechatronics/Automation/Electrical Engineering Technology and PLC expertise (Siemens/Allen-Bradley).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with PLC troubleshooting (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of industrial sensors, motor controls, and actuators.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair complex faults in automated equipment (conveyors, robotics, PLC control panels, VFDs) using electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic paths.
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance (thermography, vibration analysis) to proactively identify failure modes.
- Lead or assist in root-cause analysis investigations for chronic equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Uphold safety policies including Lockout/Tagout and machine guarding.
