Job summary

Verdant Specialty Solutions in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to lead accounting operations for the U.S. and international businesses.

This onsite role reports to the Controller and collaborates with the Finance leadership to strengthen controls, systems, and processes. You will oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, prepare consolidated financial statements, and manage multi-entity reporting while driving process improvements and data integrity across

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including close, GL, reconciliations, and audit support.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and consolidated financial reporting.
• Experience with inventory accounting, valuation and reserves.
• Experience in ERP-based environments; SAP S/4HANA experience strongly preferred.
• Manufacturing or process-industry accounting experience preferred.
• CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred.
• Ability to analyze complex accounting issues, improve processes, and collaborate across the business.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and issue resolution.
• Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and variance analyses.
• Oversee general ledger, intercompany, currency matters, and multi-entity reporting.
• Manage inventory accounting, including valuation, reserves, cycles, and physical inventories.
• Oversee fixed assets and capital expenditures accounting.
• Maintain internal controls over financial reporting and remediate deficiencies.
• Coordinate internal and external audits.
• Conduct technical accounting research and evaluate complex transactions.
• Oversee SAP accounting processes, master data, controls, and data integrity.
• Support U.S. tax compliance and UK/Germany VAT reporting.
• Supervise and develop Corporate Accounting team members.
