Job summary

Jobot is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller for our Middle River, MD, onsite team. This hands-on role supports daily accounting operations, payroll, billing, and project costing within a busy construction-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Strong accounting background with experience supporting multiple accounting functions.
• Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, AP, AR, and payroll.
• Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting/ERP systems.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with accounting personnel, project managers, and leadership.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on, individual contributor position.
• Ability to work onsite in Middle River, MD, five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Support the Branch Controller with daily accounting operations and financial reporting.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reviews.
• Support budgeting, financial analysis, and year-end audit requests.
• Ensure accounting activities align with company policies and established procedures.
• Coordinate with payroll personnel to ensure timely and accurate weekly payroll processing.
• Assist with certified payroll reporting, prevailing wage requirements, and union-related payroll questions.
• Support payroll reporting and coordination with corporate accounting.
• Support monthly construction billing, including AIA billing and related documentation.
• Review AR aging, outstanding balances, retainage, and collection activity.
• Coordinate with project managers and billing personnel to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely invoicing.
• Assist with new project setup, budgets, contracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
• Review project cost reports and identify potential discrepancies.
• Partner with project managers to support accurate financial tracking and reporting.
• Assist with project cost summaries and ongoing financial analysis.
• Coordinate with AP personnel regarding invoice processing, subcontractor payments, and expense approvals.
• Review accounting documentation and assist with resolving outstanding issues.
