This is a remote, part-time position requiring evening and weekend availability.

Overview

The Academic Support Specialist provides academic instructional support to students enrolled in our online Software Development, Coding, and Programming courses.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one support to help students develop their academic skills and assist with coursework.
• Utilize tutoring strategies such as active listening, note-taking, questioning, and encouragement.
• Support students in study skills, including reading, organization, and time management through coaching, tutoring, and mentoring.
• Offer troubleshooting for academic technology issues.
• Perform outreach to students needing additional academic support.
• Develop and gather resources like videos, documents, articles, or websites to enhance student learning.
• Document session notes in the learning management system.
• Support faculty and provide feedback on curriculum updates.

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science-related field from a regionally accredited institution.

1-2 years of relevant work experience within the past 5 years.

Skills/Abilities

• Proficiency in key languages: Python, Java, C++, C#, JavaScript, SQL, and basic HTML/CSS.
• Strong understanding of core CS concepts: data structures, algorithms, OOP, and basic database management.
• Experience with development tools like Git/GitHub and Visual Studio.
• Experience with debugging tools and strategies.
• Ability to guide students through labs, exercises, and projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills, approachability, and empathy.
• Experience in student-centric, hands-on learning environments.
• Ability to work in a 5-week accelerated course environment.
