Job summary

Indian River State College is seeking dedicated educators to serve as Adjunct Professors of English (Online Only). The role focuses on teaching and mentoring students in a fully online environment, with emphasis on engagement, critical thinking, and academic achievement.

Successful candidates will possess a Master’s degree in English or related fields, strong communication skills, and experience with online pedagogy. Preferred are post-secondary teaching experience and online course delivery.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in English or English Education, or MFA in Creative Writing, or a Master’s with 18 graduate hours in English/Creative Writing.
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
• Proven teaching skills with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way.
• Ability to recognize and to respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds as well as the willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process.
• Understanding of online pedagogy.
• All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC).
• Two to five years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution is preferred.
• Experience teaching online courses is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Preparing, instructing and grading all class coursework.
• Assigning final grades.
• Communicating with students in a timely manner.
• Instructing assigned classes.
• Grading quizzes, tests, and written assignments.
• Assigning final grades; Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment.
• Responding to student inquiries regarding course content, grading, and other academic concerns.
• Collaborating with department colleagues as necessary.
• Participating in general adjunct faculty meetings.
• Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
