Job summary

Volunteers of America Western Washington is hiring an Online Crisis Counselor in Everett, WA. The role focuses on responding to 988 chats/texts, delivering crisis intervention, and supportive counseling using a structured intervention model.

You will assess safety, ensure rapid risk identification, and collaborate with a team of crisis professionals, while maintaining confidentiality and reporting as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a social science/behavioural health or related field required.
• 1 year experience in a mental health or related field preferred.
• Typing test with a score of 35 WPM or higher required within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming chats and texts, providing crisis intervention and supportive counseling.
• Conduct safety assessments per agency policies and Lifeline Best Practices.
• Manage client interactions to ensure efficient and appropriate support.
• Initiate police intervention if a Visitor is at immediate risk of harm.
• Adhere to HIPAA confidentiality and mandated reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with online crisis counselor team and Shift Leads on complex cases.
